White Cliffs to St Margaret’s
The walking map: visitor centre → Fan Bay → white lighthouse → St Margaret’s Bay.
3 miles one way · 1½–2 hours walking
- 1
Visitor centre, shop end
Taxi to National Trust Langdon Cliffs (Upper Road). Start at the east / shop end of the building. 10 min from CT1/CT2.
- 2
Car park → pedestrian gate
Walk east across the car park with the cliff and sea on your RIGHT. Join the road, then the gate about 100 m ahead.
- 3
Upper viewpoint
Through the gate, slight left at the fork, uphill. Keep to the surfaced path. Sea stays on your right.
- 4
Fan Bay Deep Shelter
A steep stepped dip (Langdon Hole), then 0.9 mi. White flagpole on your LEFT marks the shelter. Continue the same way.
- 5
South Foreland Lighthouse
About 2 mi / 1h–1h30 from the visitor centre. At the fork take the LEFT to the white lighthouse. Grounds are free.
- 6
Down to St Margaret’s Bay
Coast Path downhill about 1 mi / 25 min to the shingle beach. Lunch here. Taxi back to the ship — do not walk back.
Taxi: 10 min to the visitor centre. 12–15 min back from St Margaret’s Bay.
On foot: Keep the sea on your right the whole way. Surfaced path, then a steep stepped dip. Not a cliff-edge scramble.
Be at the terminal 90 min before all-aboard. Immigration on the way in can take 30–90 min.
